Some history:
"Opportunity was the main reason I opened the
cafe."
While tending bar at the neighboring Eastside Club, he watched
Profitt's cafe change ownership and eventually close shop. Realizing
the potential opportunity, he spoke to the landlady and soon rented
the space which has housed a variety of cafes since the late fifties
(including a previous "Clubside Cafe").
After a kitchen remodel, a complete scrubbing and
a new coat of paint, Kenny and his crew added decor reflecting
the classic 50's diner era with hot wheels, hubcaps and soda pin-ups
decorating the vast counter area. Kenny points out that, "The
service counter is a key part of the experience and adds to the
laid-back and conversational atmosphere."
"My investors were my first customers."
Kenny brought on close friends as investors citing, "They
thought I could make a success of it since I usually prepared
the food for our parties and holiday gatherings." Additionally,
Trobman is experienced in the local food and beverage industry
after working as sales representative for Fishtale Ales and tending
bar after moving to Olympia in 1998. Kenny adds, "I just
knew it was the right place when I arrived here."
While realizing the often tumultuous market for
small businesses, Kenny feels confident the Clubside can succeed
saying, "If we create a place where people feel invited and
comfortable, combined with our ever-changing menu, we'll be around
for a long time."
